Through these pages, you will discover an inspiring story of faith and perseverance. Cheng Hoon Teng is a premier historical monument that has survived the ravages of time. It remains the finest of Chinese temples in Malaysia – a fact underscored by an UNESCO award for outstanding architectural restoration.

The temple ranks among the most significant in Southeast Asia, being central to the spiritual aspirations of the Chinese community in historic Malacca. This site is dedicated to the vision of Cheng Hoon Teng's founders and the determination of its devotees to preserve their unique bastion of culture and heritage.

For centuries, the Malay Peninsular attracted immigrants from China who brought with them their culture and architecture. No where is this apparent than in this unique building style of Malaysia oldest Chinese temple. Built in the Southern Chinese peasant style, Cheng Hoon Teng has withstood the test of time for almost 400 years. Today it remains the premier Chinese Temple in Malaysia - a fitting tribute to its founding fathers.

This 10 minute video provides a brief insight on the temple's recent restoration and an appreciation of the intricacies of traditional building and restoration methods. This includes ancient painting and lacquering methods, gold gilding, Chien nien, mural restoration and traditional roof tiling.

The viewers are also shown the other temples and burial grounds under management of the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple Incorporated.
